Silica Sand

Silica Sand, or Industrial Sand, is the backbone of the glass and construction sectors. Gamma Group combines extraction with advanced beneficiation—using hydrocyclones and classifiers—to deliver sand with high chemical purity and precise grain distribution.

Grades of Silica Sand

Glass Grade

Supplied for the production of high-clarity float glass, solar panels, and containers, ensuring superior light transmission and durability.

Foundry Grade

Used in the creation of molds for metal casting, providing the high thermal stability required for precision industrial manufacturing.

Construction Grade

Essential for the infrastructure sector, serving as a key aggregate in the production of high-strength concrete and specialty plasters.

Filtration Grade

Utilized in water treatment plants as a highly effective filtration medium, critical for purification and industrial water management.

How is Silica Sand Mined?

Silica mining involves extracting friable sandstone or loose sand deposits, followed immediately by an intensive "wet processing" stage to remove clay and iron contaminants.

Process

1

Survey & Planning

Deposits are analyzed for silica percentage and iron content. Mining paths are plotted to avoid high-impurity zones that could contaminate the final product.

2

Controlled Mining

Sand is extracted using hydraulic excavators. Care is taken to avoid mixing the silica layer with the clay overburden, preserving the raw material's integrity.

3

Washing & Beneficiation

We employ a dual-method approach to suit different grade requirements. Manual Washing is utilized for specialized batches where specific texture retention is prioritized. For high-volume industrial needs, our Automated Washing plant—equipped with hydrocyclones and spiral classifiers—rigorously removes clay (<63 microns) and iron impurities to meet glass-grade standards.

4

Storage & Dispatch

Washed sand is dried (if required) and segregated into silos based on grain size (e.g., coarse for filtration, fine for glass). It is then loaded into covered trucks to prevent contamination during transit.

Future of Silica Sand

Silica Sand is rapidly becoming a strategic mineral for the 21st century. The explosive growth of the solar power sector requires vast quantities of high-purity, iron-free silica for manufacturing Photovoltaic (PV) Glass. Simultaneously, as environmental regulations tighten on river sand dredging, the construction industry is shifting definitively toward manufactured and washed silica sand. Gamma Group’s investment in advanced washing technology ensures we are ready to supply these high-specification, future-critical markets.
