Activated Alumina

Activated Alumina is a highly porous form of aluminum oxide, engineered for superior adsorption capabilities. Produced at our MIDC Gadhinglaj facility, it acts as a critical desiccant and filtration medium for industrial safety and public health.

Properties

High Surface Area

Activated alumina has an extremely high surface area, making it highly effective at adsorbing contaminants.

Porosity

Its porous structure increases its capacity to trap impurities and water molecules.

Chemical Stability

It remains stable in a wide range of chemical environments, making it useful in various industrial processes.

How is Activated Alumina manufactured?

This is a chemical engineering process where raw aluminum hydroxide is thermally treated (calcined) to create a vast internal pore structure.

Process

1

Raw Material Purification

Aluminum hydroxide is processed under controlled temperature conditions to obtain high-purity material with the desired properties.

2

Feedstock Preparation

The purified hydroxide is formed into nodules of specific size, suitable for further activation.

3

Thermal Activation

The nodules are subjected to controlled heating to remove moisture and develop the porous structure required for adsorption.

4

Sizing & Screening

The activated granules are screened to ensure uniform particle size. Fines and dust are either recycled or removed to maintain product consistency.

5

Storage & Packaging

Due to its hygroscopic nature, activated alumina is immediately packed in bulk super sacks equipped with polyethylene inner liners to provide a moisture barrier. This ensures product integrity, prevents adsorption during storage, and maintains long-term performance characteristics.

Future Outlook

The future of Activated Alumina is anchored in the global shift towards environmental sustainability and cleaner industrial processes. As the demand for potable water intensifies, its role as a premier defluoridation and purification agent is set to expand significantly across developing markets. Furthermore, its critical application as a catalyst carrier and advanced desiccant will be pivotal in supporting the emerging hydrogen economy and next-generation petrochemical refining.
